Founded in 2000 by Phyllis Recca, the Phyllis Recca Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the health and well being of children and their families. With all the pressures a family must endure during the illness of a child, including time missed from work, other sibling needs, financial burdens and possible long term care requirements, the stress level within the family can become overwhelming. The Phyllis Recca Foundation is committed to helping lessen these burdens.
To date we have helped 98 families pay off the balance of their hospital bills. Though families are under no obligation to contact the Foundation, many families have sent kind letters of gratitude. We have included a few quotes below, but have left off the family name to protect their privacy.
"My name is Kim and I just received a letter from CHOP. They informed me that your foundation had paid off the remainder of my daughter's medical bill. I had never heard of a foundation covering medical bills. I was so surprised and thankful. We have been paying this bill for several years...What a nice present in the mail, for once." 2008
"I am writing in response to the letter I received from The Children's Hospital ... in which I was informed of the generosity of your foundation. In this day and age such a deed is quite remarkable and truly appreciated. On behalf of my son Preston and me we wish to express our gratitude for his noble act and say thank you for your kindness. It is warming to my heart to know that such a charitable organization recognizes and rewards conscientious payment of an outstanding debt." 2008

Our daughter Patricia since age 4, now 8, has had vocal chord stenosis which is a closing of the vocal chords. This restricts her airway and she has had a trache tube in her throat for about 4 years. When I opened the letter from CHOP stating that your foundation had paid my daughter's bill in full, I nearly cried. We appreciate your thoughtfulness in selecting us to receive this benefit, and it will tremendously relieve some of the financial hardships we have felt over the last couple of years." 2003
I am writing to thank the Foundation for paying the balance of my son Kevin's medical bill. This was totally unexpected and we were quite surprised when informed of your action. When I first read your letter I almost fell off of my chair. I had to have my husband read your letter to make sure that I read your letter correctly. Since Kayla's diagnosis of diabetes a year and a half ago, the hospital and medical expenses have been a burden. Once again I want to thank you for thinking of our family." 2001
